-- WANTED: Spotted Lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) -- -- Location: USA -- -- INFO: Native to Asia, this planthopper was first detected in the United States in 2014. Since then, it has quickly spread and become a significant agricultural, ornamental, and nuisance pest. With a diverse sap-sucking appetite, it's a major threat to many fruits like wine grapes, hops, hardwoods, and over 70 landscaping/garden species. This insect also produces a sticky "honeydew" that encourages harmful mold growth on plants. They can reduce human quality of life by swarming backyards and recreation areas during spring and summer months, as well as covering flat surfaces such as trees, rocks, outdoor furniture, and vehicles in cement-like egg masses from late summer to early winter. -- -- If found, document and destroy the specimen immediately! Report all sightings to your state's Department of Agriculture. -- -- This has been a public service announcement, courtesy of all conservation-minded folks! --
